I officially opened up the 2007 season at LSU this past weekend.
Performance…I opened up at 11-11, followed by 12-5.5, then 12-11.5, and went out at 13-5.
This first meet of the season was used to tune up my descion making skills as to what pole to jump on and where to adjust the standards. At opening height I started on my 17.5 with standard at 80 for a clean clearance. Move to the next pole 17.0 and keep the standards at 80 for the next two bar, making them on first attempts. After clearing 12-11.5 on my 17.0 and feeling like I peaked behind the bar, I decided to move up poles to my 16.2. Initially, I set the standards at 65 and came up short due to a high pole tip at the plant. On my second attemp I moved them into 60, thinking if I came up short again I could sneak around the bar. With a much better plant and take off, I hit on the way up. On my finally attempt I left everything the same and blew through. I guess I was moving through the pole better than I thought I was.
In addition to having the right run, the right pole, the right grip, and the right setting of the standards; the lowering and planting of the pole made a difference between my last three jumps. This is an area that I will have to work on to be more consistant at as I move up poles.

Post meet blue today. After a great competition this weekend, the body and mind was not quite rejuvenated. We took a close look at the seperation of the tall top hand and the power of bottom hand to get a more fluid vault. Something was accomplished today, now I have to train and rest up for the weekend.

I opened up my season this weekend at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, AR. Competing against a field of about 20 colligiate and post-colligiate vaulters combined. In this meet, because it is a pre-season event, I ran from a 10 step approach. I am still working to improve the technical aspect of my vault from a short approach.
Performance…I opened up at 11-6, followed by 12-0, then 12-6, 13-0, 13-4, and 13-8, missing all three attemps at 13-10.
Flashback…Last year at this time, I clear 13-0 from a 12 step approach.
