Saturday, April 28 was an unusally sunny and warm day in Des Moines, IA. Today was the first Drake Relays that the Invitational Pole Vault for the Women and Men took place on the newly remodeled track and field at Drake Stadium. The competition opened at 13′1 with five competitor and two passing to the next height. First up, I cleared the first height (13′1″) on my first attemp. I was the only one to clear to make it to the next height. Again, first up I clear 13′6″ on a first attemp. With the two remaining competitior entering into the competiton. O’hara cleared on her first attemp and Schwartz on her third attemp. With Schwartz passing to the next height of 14′2″, O’hara and myself jumped at 13′10″. Both missing all three attemps at 13′10″, Schwartz positioned to take the lead with a clearance at 14′2. Her missed attemps tired O’hara and myself for 1st. JUMP OFF! We started with the bar at 13′10″, both missing at that height. The bar was then lower to 13′8″. I missed on my one attemp and O’hara cleared crowning her as the 2007 Drake Relays Champions.
